Tasting notes

A deliciously rich, broad, tropical fruit flavoured wine made with grapes from prime low-yielding vines given long, cool fermentation with natural wild yeast and aged in 100% French oak barrels. This is one of the most expressive Argentinian wines currently available. Try with poultry in richer sauces.

The Catena family has conducted extensive research into the soils and microclimates of Mendoza's high altitude wine country in the foothills of the Andes mountains. At different altitudes, the family’s Chardonnay vineyards express a unique profile of aromas and flavours: the ripe tropical fruit flavours and rich texture of the La Pirámide vineyard (3117 ft elevation); the white stone fruit and citrus notes of the Domingo Vineyard (3675 f elevation); the lively floral notes, strong mineral character and excellent acidity of the Adrianna vineyard (4757 ft).

Expert reviews

Rich, broad and full of tropical fruit flavours, this is a bold and characterful Chardonnay. There's a depth of character and a velvety, buttery texture, with notes of sweet spice. Expressive, generous and of very good quality, this is one of the best Argentinian whites around.

Description

To taste the wines of Catena is to enjoy wine at the cutting edge

If you want to treat yourself to Malbec at its most sensuous and complex, those in the know head to Catena winery.
Now in the capable hands of 4th generation winemaker, Dr. Laura Catena, the winery came to fame under her father, Nicolás Catena. A Decanter Man of the Year, he pioneered the use of cutting-edge European winemaking methods in Argentina.

Combined with a meticulous approach in the vineyard he revolutionized Argentinian wine and has helped make Argentinian Malbec a staple of many a British wine lover's wine rack.
