Tasting notes

Intense nettle, lime and basil flavours with a Pouilly Fumé-like pungency typical of the Awatere valley. Made by the highly regarded winemaker Simon Waghorn to show the regional character of the area where rich clay soils give this wine its distinctive flavour profile and an attractive mineral style.

Is it just us, or is it becoming harder to get a second dimension from New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc these days? in a sea of rather anodyne Kiwi savvies, this one at least stands out from the crowd for its pungently aromatic essence of Marlborough passion fruit scents and its concentrated, rich exotic guava and passion fruit flavours, delivered in typically assertive mode

For a truly New Zealand experience, pair this Sauvignon Blanc with native green-lipped mussels. These mussels are big and meaty but are full of delicate, fresh flavours. The wine has lovely, rich concentrated fruit notes that match with the fresh mussels. Why not add some grated Parmigiano Reggiano and grill until brown. Serve with fluffy Thai coconut rice and lime wedges.
