Baiocchi Montefalco Sagrantino
Prestigious wine from an ancient variety
One of Italy’s most remarkable wines, this red, made from Sagrantino grapes, is rich and concentrated with immense power. Full of dense bramble fruit flavours and a smoky overlay this is richly textured and delicious.

Serious and demanding Umbrian bruiser.
Sagrantino can be rather tough and tannic and needs time to reveal its charms. This full bodied, fleshy red with an abundance of dark, spicy berry fruit will benefit from another year or two in the cellar to show at its best. Decant if drinking now.

Supple and distinctively Umbrian
I sense the craftsmanship in this wine, but it's pedigree is discreetly understated. Reminds me of old-style Chianti, but this Montefalco has something else. Its somehow more punky, with plenty of fruit, body and longevity on the tongue and in the nose. I am no longer a fan of Barolo and Brunellos, finding them too geared toward the export market these days. Go for this wine if you want to rediscover real Italian style in a wine. Pricey, yes, for an everyday wine, but that's how I'd like to drink it!

A good rich Italian red.
This is a huge red wne whichfills the mouth with flavour and voluptuous fruit. It was most enjoyable, and would gowell either on its own or with food.
