Alberto Antonini

A trailblazing Argentinian winemaker – and a Malbec master

As a boy picking grapes at his family winery in Tuscany, Alberto Antonini (shown far left) would never have guessed that fame and fortune would lie on the other side of the planet.

As one of ‘Top 10 Wine Consultants in the World’ (The Drinks Business), Alberto’s expertise is now sought after in Australia, South America, South Africa and in his native Italy, but his influence on Argentinian wine could well be his greatest legacy.

When Alberto first arrived in Argentina in 1995, wine was largely mass-produced. He was one of the first to see Malbec's thrilling potential and how quality levels could soar by growing grapes at altitude.

Today the grape is Argentina's calling card and Alberto's Las Hormigas winery is one of the country's most celebrated.

Malbec 'Terroir' showcases his original vision for this grape... a beautifully balanced red that reflects the high-altitude vineyards, long hours of sunshine and mineral rich soils of the Uco Valley in Mendoza.

It is this unique 'terroir' that adds irresistible freshness which lesser jammy-tasting Malbecs are sorely lacking. It also provides delicious complexity to the silken layers of ripe plum, hedgerow fruit, and a luxuriously smooth finish. In short, it's a Malbec masterpiece.
