  • La verriere

    Exclusive to Waitrose

This beautiful white is a top of the range white wine produced for Waitrose by Charles & Ruth Simpson of Domaine de Sainte Rose.

Roussanne is a big, bold and characterful white grape variety, planted widely in the sunny south of France.

Roussanne grapes are known to produce exotic, luxuriously textured wines that benefit greatly from time ageing in oak barrels and will continue to age beautifully in the bottle.

Seen by many as a textbook example of this variety, the Barrel Selection Roussanne pairs wonderfully with food. Its impeccable structure and flavour profile goes wonderfully with roast turkey or duck, grilled lobster or langoustine and with oriental dishes such as Thai Green Curry or dim sum.

    The team behind the wine

These days, when very few people can claim to be living their dream, Charles and Ruth Simpson would say that are two of the few who can.

In 2002, their decision to cast aside their respective international careers in order to establish and run a high-quality, boutique wine business in rural France was driven by a desire to work together and to create a family business of their own.

Their passion for wine and desire to invest in an, 'emerging' wine-producing area, rather than an area that was already well established, led them to the exciting and highly diverse French wine-producing region of Languedoc-Roussillon.

The dream had always been to produce quality wine and the property they found, Domaine de Sainte Rose, provided them with the perfect raw materials

    Investing in quality

In the thirteen years that the Simpsons have been at Sainte Rose they have completely redesigned the winery, turning it into a state-of-the-art facility.

Overtime they have gradually implemented major improvements in the vineyard, using environmentally sensitive farming techniques and have successfully introduced their wines into a number of different markets around the world.

Charles and Ruth promise that the wines they make will both surprise and delight you and that they will change your mind about the Languedoc region 's ability to produce exceptional wine.
