This excellent-value wine from indigenous Sicilian grapes is wonderful with pasta al forno.

For centuries, Inycon's beautiful vineyards have been growing along the rugged coast of south-west Sicily. Over the years, the skills needed to make great wines have been passed down through the generations and remain at the heart of the community today.

Taking together two of Sicily's most interesting native grape varieties, Nero d'Avola and Frappato, this deep-hued rosso with its savoury aromas and vibrant, primary, dark cherry fruit makes for a really approachable pasta basher or chicken-friendly red.

Nero d'Avola characteristically has a lovely peppery, spicness to the finish, in a similar style to some Shiraz. It's these peppery notes, combined with rich, concentrated dark fruit flavours that make it such a good match for this dish. While the pepper complements the spice of the sauce, the fruit ensures the wine has enough flavour to stand up to the power of the dish.
