Tasting notes

With an attractive red ruby coulour with medium-high intensity, in the nose it suprises with a powerful fruit remarkably blended with traces from its noble ageing: coconut and toffee, evolving into seductive nuances of spices and mediterranean bush. The attack is truly powerful and develops in the mouth a pleasant sensation of volume and onctuosity with drives us to a long finish, nervous and fresh due to its optimum acidity, and bringing back an aftertaste with red fruits and again mediterranean bushes.

Selected cool-harvested grapes are traditionally vinified and then aged for 20 months in American oak barrels, followed by a further 24 months in bottle to round out the wine.

Baron de Ley is a winery which was devised and founded in 1985 by a small group of prestigious Rioja professionals which decided to create a project which was unique at that time in the Denominación de Origen Calificada Rioja: a winery modelled on the Médoc châteaux, bringing together all the conditions that make a wine a work of art.

Our favourites

"The popular region of Rioja in the north of the country is home to, amongst others, the popular Tempranillo grape. If you like the structure of Cabernet Sauvignon and the juicy fruits of Grenache then pour yourself a glass of this robust red. Rioja wine is all about maturation and this example, known as a Reserva, has been aged for a minimum of 3 years resulting in developing flavours of rich red fruits, spice and leather, which will dance to a flamenco beat on your palate. The finishing touch to a rib of beef."

Perfect food match

Lamb shank with Baron de Ley Reserva, Rioja

Slow cooked lamb shank with a blackberry jus

Rioja and lamb are a classic combination. The addition of the blackberry jus, really brings out the fruit characters in the wine.
