Reynella Basket Pressed Shiraz

Big-flavoured McLaren style with surprising elegance

A great red, boasting the style of McLaren Vale Shiraz but with surprising elegance and fruitiness. The year spent ageing in small, American oak barrels has added complex mint and chocolate notes to the palate.

Tasting notes

Boasting the big-flavoured style of McLaren Vale Shiraz but with surprising elegance, and raspberry and blackberry fruitiness. The year spent ageing in small, American oak barrels has added complex mint and chocolate notes to the palate. Delicious with roast beef, lamb or gourmet sausages.

One of the few wines to be made using a basket press which gently presses the fermenting grapes extracting only the favoured soft tannins and rich flavours. The Reynella Winery is the site of oldest wine business in South Australia, established by John Reynell in 1838. After passing through several hands, the Hardy family purchased the business in 1982. Hardys association with Reynella dates from 1850 when pioneer and founder Thomas Hardy, worked for John Reynell during his first six months in Australia.

Expert reviews

This is a real crowd pleaser, it's going to be great with summer barbeques but perfect for a cosy night in.

Perfect food match

Venison sausages with balsamic chocolate glaze with Reynella Basket Pressed Shiraz

Venison sausages with balsamic chocolate glaze

This rich, statisfying dish is perfect on a cold Autumn evening and to help with the warming up, pair with a glass of Reynella Shiraz. The dark balsamic glaze clings to the meat on the sausages and coats every last bite. The undertones of chocolate in glaze are enhanced by the mint notes in the wine, while the blackberry fruit flavours combine well with the spiced venison. Serve with creamy mash and green beans.
