In 1976, Eileen Hardy received an OBE in recognition of her outstanding contribution to the Australian wine industry, to commemorate this a bottle carrying her name is produced every vintage. The winemaker selects the best Chardonnay grapes on the estate to carry the "Eileen Hardy" label. They are all hand-picked, naturally fermented and placed in high-quality French oak barrels, where the hallmark of this outstanding wine is formed.
It all started in 1850 when Thomas Hardy left Devon for Australia. 165 years later he leaves his legacy in his wines, the international awards they receive and the reputation for leading the way in winemaking in the South of Australia. His philosophy of creating wines which will be prized in the markets of the world by showing outstanding innovation and resourcefulness" is still the mantra of Paul Lapsley, Hardys chief winemaker today.
Intense aroma of white nectarine and peach. Secondary notes of toasty oak with a hint of lemon will feature in the wine while young. Wild fermentation yields a flinty mineral character.
A rich palate with opulent fruit underpinned by mineral acidity. Stone fruit and citrus flavours interplay on the palate with creaminess and structured oak. A highly complex wine with wonderful flavour.
