Classic Sancerre with lemony character

Fresh nettle and herbal aromas mingle with an appetising gooseberry-fool opulence in this Loire Sauvignon Blanc. The vibrant fruit flavours are nicely balanced by crisp citrusy acidity.

Tasting notes

This is a classic Sancerre with lemony-fruit character, superb flintiness and a complex and lengthy finish. Made from 100% Sauvignon Blanc by the Mellot family, winemakers since 1513, with the tradition passed down from father to son. Enjoy with shellfish or indulge yourself with smoked salmon sandwiches.

This is part of a delicious range made exclusively for Waitrose by some of the world’s best producers. Travelling far and wide, our wine buyers have sourced a selection of exceptionally good wines that truly represents their origin, be it this flinty Sancerre or spicy Barossa Shiraz.

Perfect food match

Smoked salmon sandwiches

What could be more indulgent than neat, white triangles of smoked salmon and cucumber sandwiches, accompanied by this fresh, citrussy Sancerre. The lemon notes of the wine are a classic match with salmon and the mineral nature of the wine reflects the delicate nature of the food. Makes for a very fine picnic indeed.
