Waitrose Sauvignon Blanc, Villa Maria

Crisp gooseberry fruit & smoky, stony finesse

We're really proud of our New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc. It's been crafted in the classic Marlborough style with zesty citrus and gooseberry flavours but with a twist of fresh mint and minerality on the finish.

Expert reviews

"This sings of the classic New Zealand Sauvignon flavours of gooseberry and citrus, but we've worked with Alistair Maling MW, the winemaker at Villa Maria, to bring some of the characters of Sauvignon from the Loire to the the fore as well. On the nose there's an elegance and restraint reminiscent of Sancerre, and on a palate an enticing stony minerality. A beautifully crafted and balanced Sauvignon Blanc."

Perfect food match

Chicken Risotto with Waitrose Sauvignon Blanc

Chicken risotto

This wine has a lovely crisp acidity that matches the richer texture of a well-made risotto. This has vibrant flavours of Sauvignon, such as gooseberry, smoky stone fruit and subtle grass notes, blend well with the succulent chicken flavours of the risotto. Add asparagus to this dish to really bring out the characters of the wine. Finish with the customary shaved Parmigiano.
