This fresh, citrusy wine has bright apple and pear fruit overlaying more complex pineapple and custard richness and tropical notes. Tight, linear acidity provides grace with a width of rounded oak for depth and power. A great little over-achiever that should not be under-estimated.
Varietal mix: 50% Semillon, 35% Sauvignon Blanc, 15% Sauvignon Gris.
Owned by the Courselle family since the 1940's, Château Thieuley is located close to the village La Sauve Majeure in the middle of Entre-deux-Mers and produces some of the best and unique white Bordeaux's.
This Estate is entirely family owned, having been bought by André Courselle in 1950 and passed on to Francis Courselle in 1972. It is now in the capable hands of his daughters Sylvie and Marie who have inherited the family passion. It now covers 80 hectares over three properties on clay and gravel soils. The red vineyards are planted to 68% Merlot, 15% Cabernet Franc, 15% Cabernet Sauvignon and 2% Petit Verdot, and the whites are Semillon dominated with 35% Sauvignon blanc and 15% Sauvignon Gris. Château Thieuley is an oddity in Bordeaux in that their focus is on quality dry white wines over red wines, and the results are wonderfully rich, elegantly oaked, precise wines made with care and attention to detail.
