Tasting Notes

"Moderately intense purple hue. It has good black fruit nose with toasty oak notes and a touch of spice. Pure cassis fruit underlying. On the palate, there is a crunchy, fresh ripe fruit style. It is moderately light in weight with good intensity and medium fine tannins brought together by a bright acid structure." Xenia Irwin, Waitrose Partner & Wine Buyer

"This is a rich stylish wine from the Chanfreau family. It has fine tannins and signs of wood aging, both of which will meld into the juicy black-currant fruits. It has a predominance of Cabernet Sauvignon that gives the wine its structure and aging potential." Wine Enthusiast

Château Fonréaud

Situated on the highest point in the Medoc, Château Fonréaud is well-known for its historical vineyards and the legend that goes with its name.

Known for the quality of its wines, Château Fonréaud is one of the foremost Cru Bourgeois Supérieur in the commune of Listrac-Medoc. The 36 hectares of vineyards are well located on the highest elevation in the Medoc with gravel Pyrenean soils. The vines are planted to a density of 7000 vines per hectare yielding an average of 42hl/ha from thirty-year-old vines.

Parcels of grapes are strictly selected and after de-stemming and crushing the must is run into numerous small temperature-controlled vats. Plots and varieties are harvested and vinified individually for fine tuning at blending and to make the most of the individual terroirs.

The wine is barrel-aged for 12 months in merrian oak barriques before bottling. The elegance and charm of this great wine reflect the spirit of the Chanfreau family.
