Paolo Leo Primitivo di Manduria

Well-balanced, rich and smooth

A beautifully balanced red, with poise and refinement despite its full-bodied style. It has an intense bouquet of dark berry fruits, with blackcurrants, blackberries and black cherries bursting through on the palate.

Tasting note

The Primitivo grape is a speciality of Puglia, where the warm Mediterranean sun coaxes the fruit to full, rich ripeness, giving the wine a smooth and intense flavour. This is a beautifully balanced example, with poise and refinement despite its full-bodied style. It has an intense bouquet of ripe dark berry fruits, with blackcurrants, blackberries and black cherries bursting through on the palate.

The vineyards of the Primitivo DOC Manduria lie between the towns of Manduria and Avetrana, deep in the Salento territory of Puglia, down in the heel of Italy. The wine spends 12 months in American oak barrels.

Expert reviews

"Southern Italy is home to some gloriously rich and hearty reds, and this is a wonderful example. Primitivo is a characterful variety with bold fruit flavours and a deliciously warm, generous complexity of sweet spice. It's rounded, ripe and generous with a lovely depth of flavour."
