Want to experience the best New Zealand has to offer right now? You’re in the right place...

The Wrekin is surely the most inspired creation of Simon Waghorn (shown left) - the dedicated winemaker, owner and director of Astrolabe. Our Waitrose Cellar Buyer Xenia was simply blown away by this and snapped up all she could for you, but not as much as she would have liked!

The name refers to the L’Astrolabe, the ship of French explorer Dumont d’Urville who explored the Marlborough coast in 1827. Little would Dumont have guessed at the time that the uninhabited spot he surveyed would later create wines to rival the best of his homeland.

This tremendous white is made with carefully chosen parcels of premium Chenin and is lovingly crafted to capture all the raw, ethereal beauty of New Zealand. The careful barrel-ageing adds the kind of complexity and peppery spice you would expect in a very fine white Burgundy. But make no mistake - this is a wine of New Zealand with the signature bracing fruit purity that is the hallmark of the country’s greatest.

Order now and you can look forward to enticing crisp green apples, honeysuckle, bright citrus and vanilla aromas, while the rich flavours include ripe pear, apricot and green apple that are lifted by exhilarating mineral freshness. We can't recommended this highly enough.
