Tasting notes

This is one of Austria's most renowned and historic estates, which consistently produces refined, easy-drinking whites. This crisp, dry white with delicious minerality is a good choice for fans of Alsace whites looking to try something new. A slightly richer style of Grüner Veltliner, it would make a good match for poultry.

Grüner Veltliner is grown primarily in Austria and is celebrated as one of the country’s most important grapes. It's an elegant and characterful grape that produces wines which tend to be fresh and aromatic with both floral and spicy notes, often of pear and white pepper.

Time to explore Austria's wines

Austria’s wines are now highly acclaimed both by wine experts and wine lovers all around the world. As artisanal products crafted by winemakers with a special link to their land, they consistently demonstrate their potential at international blind tastings.

Over recent years, the great potential of Austrian grape varieties has become ever more apparent, and Grüner Veltliner is pre-eminent amongst these. International successful varieties such as Riesling, Sauvignon Blanc, Gelber Muskateller, Weissburgunder (Pinot Blanc), Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, Merlot and Cabernet all ripen in particular regions and sites in Austria, producing great wines in their own right, with finesse and regional typicity.

At the same time, international wine experts are discovering exciting rare varieties such as Zierfandler, Rotgipfler, Roter Veltliner, Neuburger and Wiener Gemischter Satz, as well as Austria’s typical red wines made from Zweigelt, Blaufränkisch and Sankt Laurent. Austria also has truly terroir-driven jewels including rosé-coloured Schilcher from Steiermark, made from the Blauer Wildbacher grape variety, as well as the noble sweet Prädikatsweine from the Neusiedlersee, especially those made from Welschriesling.

Expert Review

With fresh, peppery citrus fruit and a dry, crisp character, this bottle is a great introduction to Gruner. It's superb with pan fried scallops.

From one of my favourite producers in Austria comes this lovely, pin-sharp crisp, apple-scented white with a prickle on its finish of palate-invigorating acidity. It's an unusual but stunning summer white that's ideal for drinking outdoors on a fine day.

Awesome Austrian white, whose beguiling smoky scent, spicy white pepper and dried-herbs palate, plus a bracing lemon-zest finish makes it the perfect partner to punchy summer fare, such as vitello tonnato.
