Tasting Notes

"Not showing its true colours yet (tasted in 2015), it is closed with restrained fruit yet to show, but lurking ripely. This finally emerges on the palate with grand, firm fruit and spice, it is concentrated and intense with a powerful richness in a more modern style." Xenia Irwin MW, Waitrose Partner & Wine Buyer

"Fresh, sharp, crisp, bright, red fruits, espresso, smoke and thyme open this medium bodied, earthy wine. The tannins are soft, and their is enough there to allow the wine to age and evolve." The Wine Cellar Insider

Château Poujeaux

The estate produced its first wines in the 19th century but by the first half of the 20th century the estate had been divided up several times and was in decline. It was the passion and dedication of the Theil family who took a closer look and managed to pull the estate back together and start producing exceptional wines. Former French President George Pompidou was a keen collector of these wines.

In 2008, the estate was bought by Philippe Cuvelier, who also owns Château Clos Fourtet. With his experience and determination, the reputation of this lovely estate will continue for future generations.
