Breaky Bottom Seyval Blanc Cuvée Sir Harry Kroto

Made by a small family-run vineyard in the South Downs National Park

Breaky Bottom founder and winemaker, Peter Hall, liked to dedicate each cuvée to a friend and this one is for the Nobel Chemistry Prize winner. It's floral, elegant, with notes of English apples and made using 100% Seyval Blanc grapes.

    Breaky Bottom

It is my good fortune to have had a French/Italian mother and a French grandfather. Alex Mercier was a great restaurateur in Soho (Le Petit Savoyard) even before the First World War.

It was perhaps inevitable that I should develop a deep interest in good wines (and food) since childhood.
    Peter Hall

Breaky Bottom sits in a beautiful secluded fold in the chalk Downs at the end of a 1 ½ mile farm track – wonderfully remote; and with free-draining chalk soils, an ideal site for the production of stylish fizz.

Peter Hall planted the vineyard at Breaky Bottom in 1974 making still dry Loire-style wines and started producing sparkling wines 20 years ago.

I have a passion for fine music and some 45 years ago - when I was young and energetic (and foolish) – we staged summer operas and concerts in the barn, removing the 5000 litre wine tanks after bottling and making a stage and a steeply-raked auditorium with straw bales.

Nigel Kennedy was among many fine musicians who performed at BB – great days!

    Breaky Bottom

Breaky Bottom's 40th anniversary last year was celebrated with its very own Seyval Blanc 2010 'Cuvée Koizumi Yakumo', a gold medal winner in 2014 International Wine Challenge.

Peter feels privileged to live in such a beautiful place but (with some modesty) leaves it to Oz Clarke to express his seduction.
