This enviable collection includes a citrus-rich white Bordeaux that excels with whole roast salmon or roast pheasant, New Zealand Pinot Noir to pair with roast turkey or goose, a versatile spiced Syrah and plenty more.
Alc vol:12.00% | Line no:583861 This has lovely bready aromas, fresh fruit, fine bubbles and a rich, creamy complexity on the palate. It was chosen as the official sparkling wine for Nelson Mandela’s inauguration, and also by the Obamas in November 2008. Delicious with prawns and chilli-mango salsa.
Alc vol:14.00% | Line no:724506 A stunning blend of Marsanne, Roussanne and Viognier. Rivalling Condrieu in style, this combines notes of white melon, pear and sweet vanilla that are beautifully balanced with rich caramel flavours and a silky smooth finish. It pairs well with bold flavours such as white fish with preserved lemon. Available exclusively online at waitrosecellar.com
Alc vol:12.50% | Line no:467101 This is 100% Sauvignon Blanc from vineyards located towards the eastern limits of the Bordeaux region. Refreshing, bright, fresh and full of lime citrus notes, it’s a perfect match for goat’s cheese salads, chicken and fish dishes (especially a relaxed fish and chips!). It also makes a great apéritif and a good pairing with its red partner for parties.
Alc vol:13.50% | Line no:668279 This dense wine has spicy, bramble fruit flavours that are coupled with violet and liquorice – a result of the grapes spending three weeks fermenting whole, giving freshness to the finish. This high-quality Syrah, made by oenologist (and keen windsurfer) Pierrick Harang, has a lovely soft and smooth texture, making it an ideal partner for grilled lamb chops.
Alc vol:13.50% | Line no:544085 Georges-Antoine Robert, the young owner-winemaker of this château, is one of the most exciting talents in the region. This is a powerful yet elegant red with ripe, dark berry fruit, hints of mocha and smoky oak flavours. With great balance on the palate and refined tannins, this is ready to drink now, but may also be cellared for around five years.
Alc vol:13.50% | Line no:486091 ‘Homestead’ refers to the original Jackson Estate Homestead vines, which provide the grapes for this wine. Soft, juicy fruit is balanced and supported by subtle earth and smoke notes, adding a whisper of Burgundian style. Pure fruit places this firmly in New Zealand, though, making it ideal with salmon or poultry dishes.
