Jim Barry The Benbournie

A big stunning red from Clare Valley

Benbournie was settled in 1853 and today, ancient vines, fig and almond trees remain. Berry, mocha, herb and cedar notes have a little savoury minerality; fine tannins help it improve with age

  • Jim Barry

    3 generations of winemakers

From Clare Valley in Southern Australia comes a moving story of a family-run vineyard in a close-knit local community.

Jim Barry is known as one of the pioneering names in the Australian wine making industry. He was the first qualified winemaker in Clare valley and today his vineyard has expanded greatly and his legacy is carried on by his son Peter with the help of his own sons (the 3rd generation of Jim Barry winemakers) Tom and Sam.

The story of the Benbournie Cabernet Sauvignon

Named after an old Catholic German settlement who lived in the area from 1854 whose community was built around copper mining. When industry ran out the settlement dispersed leaving only a few ancient vines, fig and almond trees.

    Notes from the Winemaker

Juicy blueberry and cassis fruits bound from the glass and are supported by an undercurrent of forest fruit character. The Benbournie has been created with the Jim Barry philosophy to be enjoyed upon release after a period of long-term cellaring under correct conditions used to enhance the wines quality.
