The source of iconic wines such as Barolo and Chianti also has an array of hidden gems to discover.

Italy is the world's most diverse wine-producing country. Each region has its own identity and the climate varies wildly from north to south, yet the wines are all generally great value, and food friendly. Surrounded and cooled by the imposing Dolomites, Trentino-Alto Adige is a picturesque region in the northeast which produces spectacular Pinot Grigio with deliciously pure fruit and minerality. Piedmont has the elegance of Gavi and Barolo - "the wine of kings and the kings of wines" according to the locals, while Tuscany brings classic Chianti. Abruzzo has delicious Pecorino and famously rich Montepulciano, but there are also intense reds to be made from Primitivo and Nero di Troia, as well as juicy Fiano, in the hills of sun-drenched Puglia. The volcanic island of Sicily is increasingly important, especially for reds from Nero d’Avola and whites from Grillo.

Italian wines deliver great quality at every price point - this is a country where wine-lovers can explore to their hearts' content. At the top end, look out for our exceptional fine wine parcels - limited volumes from great producers and top vintages. Currently, we have stunning examples of Brunello, Chianti Classico and Amarone, and a characterful Etna Rosso from sloping vineyards, rich with the soil of the famous volcano
