Never judge a book by its cover, but that's exactly what I did. The bold contemporary label grabbed me the moment I saw it and I've never looked back. Full bodied smooth and plummy (without being too 'jammy'), full of black fruit flavours, chocolate notes and a pleasant peppery hit. This huge Californian Zinfandel is a perfect partner to spicy foods (my guilty pleasure being a bottle with a pepperoni pizza). It benefits greatly from a couple of hours breathing before drinking.

Well, they pre-dry the grapes which gives the wine its wonderful power and structure. It displays warm dark fruits, ripe plum and cherry leading into complex, earthy flavours of leather, truffle and spice. On the long finish the silky tannins are complemented by a hint of violets.
This big wine would match well with a hearty, rich and flavoursome beef casserole."
