Having grown up in the restaurant trade, wine was no stranger to me and although it took me some time to appreciate its complexity, it has now become a way of life. I've since achieved a level 3 award in wines and spirits from WSET and perfected my wine knowledge to become a wine waiter, then head sommelier before joining the Waitrose Cellar team.
Château Laroque Saint-Émilion, Bordeaux, France
A quality Bordeaux from a family run château with a passion for producing top quality wine. This Merlot dominated claret combines intense red fruit, earthly complexity and subtle woodiness.
It's powerful and profoundly structured, fabulous to drink now but it will unravel further with age. This red is a wonderful match with succulent roast goose.

With over 20 years experience in the wine industry I have gained a real passion for delivering first class customer service and making the world of wine accessible. I take the view that wine shouldn't be complicated, it should be fun and best enjoyed with friends, family and great food.
The Chocolate Block, Western Cape, South Africa
This is made by Marc Kent at Boekenhoutskloof, one of South Africa's finest wineries. His famous Chocolate Block is an absolute cult classic and guaranteed to put a smile on the faces of all those lucky enough to taste it. Made from a blend of five different grape varieties, it really packs a punch. Lovely aromas of dark fruits and spice give way to a palate full of dark chocolate. Be quick and snap this up before the Oompa Loompas beat you to it!

I got into the wine trade by accident after seeing a vacancy to work in a wine-tasting shop which I applied for as it seemed like the most fun way to earn a living that I could imagine! Once I started to learn about wine I realised what a diverse and interesting subject it was; things are always changing and there are always new wines to taste and new areas to learn about.
Château Ka Source de Rouge, Bekaa Valley, Lebanon
A signature wine from Bekaa Valley in Lebanon, with lovely dark fruit flavours and just a hint of spice. A delicious blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Syrah.
Try it with grilled lamb kebabs for an authentic food and wine match.
