The history of Bollinger starts with Athanase de Villermont a noble man with an interest for Champagne. Due to his nobility he was forbidden to enter in to the trade directly.

By chance de Villermont meet German born, champagne enthusiat Joseph Bollinger and local man Paul Renaudin. In 1829 Renaudin-Bollinger & Cie was founded.

Joesph married Athanase daughter Louise-Charlotte in 1837, they had 2 sons Joseph and Georges. In later life it would be the sons who ran the buiness.

In 1920 Jacques Bollinger, son of Georges took over the buiness and with the help of his cousins Pierre and then Yves Moret de Rocheprise they continued to increased Bollinger's prominence in England.

Bollinger continued to be passed down through the family and in 1994 it was Joseph Bollinger's great-great-grandson Ghislain de Montgolfier who took the helm at the house.

    Tasting Note Bollinger NV

The Bollinger family made an interesting move in 2008 by appointing a non family member Jérôme Philipon as chairman. His expertise has helped development of the brand, both in terms of quality and commercial growth.

A real favourite with our customers, this is full-bodied with the classic breadth of flavour that is the Bollinger trademark.

Depending on the blend, a small portion may be stored in old oak barriques and the reserve wines are aged for five to 10 years.

Full and rounded with a long complex finish, it is lovely now but would reward keeping for a year or two.
