Wonderfully familiar Familia Torres
One of the reasons why the wines made by Familia Torres in Spain are so reassuring and enjoyable is because they've been made by the same family since 1870, when Jaime Torres Vendrell and brother Miguel built a winery in front of the Vilafranca del Penedès railway station in Catalonia.
Jump forward almost 100 years to the summer of 1962 and Viña Sol – this fresh white that tastes of sun-kissed Mediterranean grapes – is made for the first time. It gets its freshness from being fermented at a cool temperature in stainless steel tanks, nestled in the Penedès mountains. And like all Viña Sol wines, this Parellada is vegetarian and vegan friendly.
Today's fifth generation of Torres winemakers is focused on making great, sustainable wines. The family is among the founding members of the International Wineries for Climate Action that's committed to reducing carbon emissions in the wine industry (it has already cut its own by 30% since 2008). It's also consistently named among the 'Most Admired Drinks Brand' by British magazine Drinks International.
