Born Frei – letting nature work its magic
The Frei Brothers Sonoma Reserve winery has been a proud part of Sonoma County for 125 years. After coming to California from his native Switzerland, founder Andrew Frei first established vineyards in Dry Creek Valley in 1890. His sons, Walter and Louis, took over and adopted the name Frei Brothers. The siblings successfully ran the winery for more than 70 years, embedding long-lasting relationships with growers, farmers and fellow County winemakers.
These days, under the guidance of winegrower Scott Johnsen, the winery continues to work closely with its managers and growers to select the best sites for each variety – Russian River Valley for Chardonnay and Alexander Valley for Cabernet Sauvignon – then leaving nature to it, with minimal intervention. The resulting exceptional fruit is then handed to the winemakers to craft wines in their signature style – complex with immense clarity of flavour.
As for the future, Frei Brothers is committed to preserving the stunning beauty of its surroundings and the vibrant culture of the community by maintaining sustainable growing practices. One of its philosophies is: be good to the land and the land will be good in return. Why not taste for yourself and pour a glass?
